building blocks for learning
Contact us for more information
Building Blocks for Learning is a specialist pre-school nursery group led by jointly by our experienced Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists.
The group is designed to support the development of your child’s skills in a fun and nurturing environment to help them build the foundations for learning and equip them with the skills they need for starting school.
Group numbers are kept very small with 4 - 6 children in the group. This allows targeted individual support to be provided to your child by our specialist clinicians. Ensuring they make the maximum progress towards their Building Blocks for Learning goals.
A child's ability to develop the foundations for learning can be affected by many different issues. Sensory processing difficulties, language delays, motor difficulties and social communication difficulties can all significantly impact on a child’s ability to interact with their peers and to engage in a learning environment.
The Building Blocks for Learning group will address the issues affecting your child’s ability to engage and support them in developing their confidence and skills.
Children learn and develop best when they are in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between therapists and parents.
Our Building Blocks for Learning group provides your child with stimulating resources, relevant to their needs, rich learning opportunities through play and a playful teaching approach to support their motivation and engagement. We support our children to take positive risks and explore their learning environment, a crucial skill for when they are expected to be more active learners within the school environment.
Building Blocks for Learning supports children who will be transitioning into a mainstream school but have a specific learning need for which they need a more targeted approach to support a successful transition into the classroom.
Typical children we support in the in the pre-school group may present with:
Specific learning difficulties
Language and communication difficulties
Sensory processing difficulties
High functioning ASD
Developmental challenges without a specific diagnosis
Children will generally attend the group alongside their current nursery placement. New skills learnt in the Building Blocks Group can then be transferred and practiced in a larger nursery environment, supporting your child in generalising their skills.
If you'd like to discuss your child and if the Building Blocks for Learning nursery group is the right environment to support their individual needs then please contact us. We'd love to hear from you!
Building Blocks for Learning uses the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework to guide our group sessions, ensuring we support each child's development and learning in the group in line with national guidelines regarding early years development.
